Peterwardein (Petrovrdin) fortress was the most important protection of the old Austria against the turks. Not only the fortress, also the hill was protected and full of secret guard posts. Even the officers knew only the part they were doing service in. But when the construction was finished, the danger was gone. | The bridges over the Danube have been destroyed in 1999. The remains can be seen here, the new bridge is at a new spot. Now, the Danube can be used again by boats as the pontoon bridges are not needed any more. |
