Garbage bins. Some object of daily live which we rarely zoom in to. We took some pictures.

This is a garbage bin in Germany close to an apartment building. Protected by a strong fence with some barbed wire on top. Some bins are secured with a lock.

This makes some sense: Someone could come and throw something in. Some bad guy who throws his garbage in the bin of someone else, who is stealing garbage space and cheating on the garbage duty that he has to pay.

There are also garbage bins in Serbia, and we took some pictures.

There is a difference. They can be freely accessed, and some bags are on the side. Why didn't the people threw the bags in, as the bin is empty?

It does not seem necessary to protect the bin. In Serbia, people actually go to the garbage bins of others to take something out: paper, cartons, glass, everything that can be used somehow, maybe even eaten. This is why the old bread is in a bag besides the bin. Poor people go from container to container to search for anything that can be reused.

And they stay open. Because there are not only the people, but also the animals. Wild cats and dogs also need food, they jump into the bins to search them.

In Serbia, locking or even closing your garbage would be rude, as if you did not want to share with the poorest of the poor. Your garbage allows others to survive, to gain some little money, to give some food to homeless animals.

BTW, there is no need for bulk waste disposal in Serbia.

German waste - Serbian waste. One small difference
