Posadas

(Mexico)

Saint of the day: Alice, Adolph

Mexico

The house has to be decorated and ready for guests before the 16th, i.e. the beginning of the “Posadas”, in memory of Joseph and Marie's search for a place to stay. The house is decorated with moss, branches of evergreens and bright lights. The Christ child's crib is placed in a corner of the room. After the prayer, fireworks are lit and people gather to break the Pinata - a clay pot filled with little gifts, that hangs from the ceiling. Children are blindfolded and try to burst the pot with a stick.

How to make a Pinata

1. Wrap a balloon with newspapers that has previously been soaked in glue. Let dry for several hours. Repeat six times.

ALLOW SEVERAL DAYS TO DRY.

2. Cut stripes of crepe paper (4 inches). Curl  the paper, sliding it carefully between your thumb and a blade.

3. Once the paper is dry, crack the balloon.

Glue the crepe curls onto the Pinata

4. Fill with treats.

Anniversaries: Four of our friends - four of our ancestors

From our family history:  In 1768, was born Josef Ritter von Henikstein. He was a merchant, a banker and the director of the Austrian National Bank. He was a friend and probably a patron of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He is our great-great-great-great-grandfather!

Event: In 1859, died in Berlin Wilhelm Grimm, scientist and collector of German fairytales. Sleeping beauty, Snow-white and many others, only told until then, were written down for the first time by his brother and himself.

While Disney only promotes the 'light' version, look for the in-depth wisdom hidden in the real story - Even a grown-up may be surprised.
