Silesian Poppy dumplings

Known as Mohkließla by Silesians or Mohnpielen in Berlin, these dumplings are quite popular. You have them at Christmas or New Year's eve. So many seeds, so much luck for you during the year.

Hot wine is usually served with them.

 

4 servings

3 stale little rolls or 9 toasted slices of bread, 60 gr. sugar, 1/4 gallon milk, 250 gr ground poppy seeds, 60 gr raisins, 60 gr sweet chopped almonds, 200 gr sugar

Slice the rolls and put them in a dish. Add 
50 gr sugar and half the milk. Let stand.
Scald the milk, add the sugar, raisins and poppy seeds, simmer 10 minutes while constantly stirring.
Alternate layers  of bread mixture and poppy seed mixture, ending with poppy seeds.  Sprinkle with almonds.
